Adnan Khashoggi – The Billionaire Whale
The son of the personal physician to the Saudi King and the brother-in-law of iconic departmental store Harrods owner Mohamed Al Fayed, Adnan Khashoggi had marathon gambling sessions whenever he was on trips to the casinos in London. His favored games were Roulette, Blackjack, and Baccarat and he would cash cheques for pounds 200,000 a time. The Notorious Saudi Arabian multibillionaire arms dealer was estimated to be worth as much as $4 billion at one point and considered to be one of the biggest whales that casinos had ever seen. In the 80s and 90s, Khashoggi took the best Casinos of London and Las Vegas by storm, betting huge sums of money. After having a very large winning streak, Adnan Khashoggi was single-handedly responsible for a 19% profits drop in the quarterly earnings of Hilton International. During a three-month gambling spree in 1986, Mr. Khashoggi spent £10m on gaming chips at the Ritz Casino in London’s Piccadilly playing on the Roulette wheel and was later sued by the casino for non-payments of dues.
