3: Most Expensive Fine Art Insurance Claim -$36 M
This incident dates back to 1994 with the art gallery in Frankfurt acting as a stage. Three expensive paintings were stolen at the time and which resulted in the most expensive art insurance claims of all the time. Two Turners and one by Caspar David Friedrich were the paintings that were on loan from Tate Gallery in London and were insured.
The insurance providers had to approximately pay $36 million in compensation. Weird but interesting fact is that the paintings were brought back by buying them from the very thieves who stole them for $330,000.
