1: Kajol’s Wedding – Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
And then Amrish Puri uttered those eternal words, ‘Jaa Simran….Jee Le Apni Zindagi’ and the nation started breathing again. Very few moments in Bollywood movies has the ability to bring the nation together, this was surely one of them. Shot in picturesque London, Switzerland, and Punjab, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge revolved around the tales of a spoilt brat Raj played by Shah Rukh Khan and a down to earth girl Simran aka Kajol.
Shahrukh Khan played the ultimate charmer in this movie as well as a perfect all-rounder. In the first half, he is flirting shamelessly with Kajol in the beautiful Swiss Alps who he met accidentally on a Europe tour and who is already engaged. In the second half, when she returns to India for her arranged marriage, he is trying to work the odds in his favor to win back the girl by wooing her family. The movie had its moments especially the climax scenes when Amrish Puri tries to cockblock Kajol from running away from her arranged marriage but eventually gives in, remember the train scene?
As per Reports, Shahrukh was not keen to play Raj in the movie initially when Aditya Chopra approached him for the role but eventually he convinced him and rest is history. This movie shattered records like none other in the 90’s and is been running in Mumbai’s Maratha Mandir Theatre for almost more than 2 decades now. DDLJ’s Euphoria was so big that every teen girl in India in that era related to Kajol’s character ‘Simran’ and dreamed of meeting a guy like ‘Raj’ who would come over and sweep them off their feet.
